The Big Day

The story is about a young man rushing to get to the love of his life on her wedding day to object. He sped across a long distance through winding roads and across train tracks in his Volkswagon Jetta so the wedding could be stopped. He got stuck behind every obstacle which caused him to shriek in distress then continue his trek to the church. The bride looked happy to be married to her fiancé until the awkward interruption.

Who: Bride Brooke, Fiance Lucas, and intruder Julian
What: Julian intrudes wedding
When: June 20, 2014
Where: Charlotte, North Carolina
Why: Julian does not want to be late
How: Travels with Jetta across state to stop wedding.

Julian Baker rushes to get to his best friend Brooke Davis before vows are exchanged. Glancing at his watch, Julian speeds through the countryside and into the city before making it to the chapel, where he is greeted with blank stares.

Julian promised Brooke to make it on time, which left everyone disappointed with his no show. Some were angry, some were sad, and others just felt the awkward in the moment.

Stuck behind trains and cars Julian screams in distress.

"I couldn't let Brooke down" Julian said. "But life sure wasn't making it easy"

Brooke definitely couldn't hide her shame as Julian barged in to the chapel.

"I begged him to leave early." Brooke said. "This day was so special to me, he shouldn't have even come inside."

But no one felt more anger than fiancé Lucas Scott.

"He ruined our wedding. Friend or not, Brooke didn't deserve this." Lucas scolds.

In an attempt to please Brooke, dad John Davis even took the effort to push back the wedding 10 minutes.

"I kept the peace hoping maybe Julian would show up on time, but after staring at my watch for what seemed like a lifetime, I realized this wedding had to go forward." John Davis said.

Feeling defeat, Julian stood unable to speak in the foyer of the church.

"I didn't know what to do, all I could do was apologize and continue to support my friends no matter what." Julian said.

However, things look like they may pick up from here.

"He's my best friend."Brooke said, "We must always forgive our friends."

Preview Assignment

1.   In the tutorials that I watched and read, I learned how to create an iMovie and edit it. They showed how to start a new movie, place clips in it, edit it, and save it. You can change the length of each clip and add transitions, effects, and a title.
In the example, the woman added lightning and a title with a colored background. You can edit each of these things to make it how you want. Some examples are fairy dust, ghost trail, lighting, etc. These effects can be subtle or change your whole story.

2. I knew you could choose a theme and that there were multiple clips that combined to make a final project. I used iMovie for the iPad for a project in eighth grade.

3. I learned you can add effects or a title and change the time for each clip.

4. I am concerned about finding a original yet interesting topic for the project. I also hope the iMovie will be easy to use and not confusing.

5. I am confident that I will be able to use an appropriate amount of effects and transitions without overpowering the story.

6. Some ideas I have would be focusing on my Grandmas illness or something more simple like a typical family weekend to the lake, park, etc.

C. Photo stories were unoriginal, unclear in story behind them, and objects blocking or distracting from subject.
D. Good portrait, Good emotion in up close photos.
E. I like the use of black and white and elements of composition used. Like balance and lines.

2. Dustin Snipes

·      A) Good color composition. Photographer stays with action and follows subjects
·      B) Some strengths were how he angled and photographed his action photos. Photos where everyone involved is doing something. Some weaknesses were the too much use of photoshop.

3.  To become the winner, the portfolios needed to show difference and not have a similar portfolio. They also needed a common theme yet with diversity. They must have a good use of editing.

Part 2

1 .I agree with the judges on the photo of a girl rejoicing her tennis win. You can see the act of happiness without even having to see her face. the photo also has simplicity and includes the girl and her tennis racket which is all that is needed.
2. I do not agree with the judges opinion on the photo of a girl in an orange jersey jumping in the air. They state that the photo is basic, but I disagree. The photo shows a great amount of emotion and rules of composition including rule of thirds.

Nut Graf

A Nut graf is a second paragraph explaining the rest of the 5 W's and H that the first paragraph didn't cover. This adds additional information supporting what the first paragraph couldn't fit. This information is less important than the first paragraph.

Student of the Month Story

Who: Ashley Smith
What: Won Student of the Month
When: April, 2015
Where: Ted Selvidge High School, Austin, TX
Why: Dedication brings her to victory
How: Grades and extra curricular activities

Ashley Smith takes home a great Ted Selvidge High tradition and becomes April's Student of the Month during an election held in the courtyard.

Smith's rode to success was influenced by her parents, but most importantly her homeroom teacher. She can't only thank determination though, Smith also claims to being on Silver Stars and taking two AP classes.

Still striving for success, Smith believes there is always room to improve.

"It has given me the push to work harder" Ashley Smith states of the victory.

But her win was definitely not dull. Smith was presented the award in front of family, friends, and staff.

"I felt a rush of excitement!" Smith boasts.

The road to the award was anything but easy. Ashley places herself in higher level AP classes.

"I take two, English and Geography" Smith says proudly.

Afterward she spent the night celebrating the honor with some family fun.

"I went to Double Dave's Pizza with my family, it was great." The young student says with a smile.

However this excitement might be short lived. Smith has low hopes for adding this to her college transcript.

"It's an honor, but it won't get me ahead in life."

The future seems bright for young student who already has plans of success.

"I want to graduate from college and get a good job."

Architectural Preview

Details: (Kunsthaus Graz)

This has details because it focuses on a small part of the building. It's zoomed in so you can see a section clearly. Now we are able to see each bolt that mends the structure together.

                                                               Lights: (Kunsthaus Graz)

This represents light because the glow is peaking out from the structure near the top left of the photo. Light is also used to reflect off the mirror which makes up the entire building.

                                                              Pattern:(Kunsthaus Graz)

This shows patterns through lines on each side of the photo. A symmetrical zig-zig  runs through the wall and window. A line also runs along the ceiling which corresponds with the lines which frame the women sitting down. Circles are also a common theme on the floor.

Shape:(Kunsthaus Graz)

This represents shape because it shows not only the curve of the main part of the building,  but also shows another cylinder which is another section of the building. Also circles are repeated as lights throughout the structure.

                                                       Surroundings:(Kunsthaus Graz)

This shows surroundings by having the Kunsthaus Graz shown in half the picture while part of the surrounding city takes up the other half. You can see all the way back into the mountains while getting many other buildings including a tall prominent building. The sky is reflected on the building.

4.
-Use rules of photography
-Take pictures of interesting subjects with interesting colors. Also have spontaneous emotion in each photo.

Sports Photos

Forward: After waking up late, Renata runs to catch the bus. She ate dirt in an embarrassing fall on her way to the bus stop.

Sideways: Practicing her skills for the track team, Renata runs during free time in class. She didn't have athletic clothes, but she made the most out of practice time.

Panning: With seconds until the bell, Renata makes a speedy attempt to make it to class on time. She barley beat the buzzer as she leaped into the portable.

Blur: Surrounded by fallen leaves, a lone tuft of grass sits under a tree. The surrounding plants had died due to lack of water underneath the shadow of a large oak tree.

Warm Up Blog

1. I agree with the statement because a space isn't important until it's personalized. This way it tells a story unlike normal "pretty" photos. These photos are also visually interesting and have more things to analyze.
2. I wanted to take my camera to many of the places because the colors were so vibrant.
3. I think it would be fun because the article says all the kids play with each other in the aisles and everyone is close together.
4. My favorite photo is the flower shop. There are so many bright colors completely surrounding the woman aside from her small desk space. There are mostly greens and pinks.

Action Preview Assignment

1. This photo is included because it shows a winning moment of pride for a team and their coach, most likely after the last game of the season.
2. Shutter Speed is the time it takes for a lens to close for the amount of light that is let in. This was fast.
3. This is a key moment for the team because it is a fun exchange between "family". This was planned by the team while the coach was not expecting it.
4. There is balance between the two players and the coach on the opposite side to even it out. The water frames the coach.

News Values

Timeliness: http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2015/02/24/world/middleeast/24reuters-mideast-crisis-syria-un.html?ref=world&_r=0 ("Rights Group Calls for U.N Arms Embargo on Syria Over Barrel Bombs")
The article expresses an extremely new story considering this was posted 15 minutes ago. The event lasted years up to January 15, 2015.

Proximityhttp://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/21/world/americas/canada-attack-suspect-is-now-charged-in-3-killings.html?ref=americas ("Canada Attack Suspect is now charged with 3 killings")
The article revolves around a Canadian event. The paper was published in New York a little distance away.

Prominencehttp://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/25/world/middleeast/monitoring-group-says-isis-has-abducted-90-christians-in-syria.html?ref=world ("Monitoring Group ISIS has abducted 90 Christians in Syria")
This is the most important in my opinion because it's the spark of a genocide on religion. There is death the top of the hate pyramid which is involving multiple countries.

Impact: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/25/world/americas/as-cuba-shifts-toward-capitalism-inequality-grows-more-visible.html?ref=americas (" As Cuba Shifts towards Capitalism, inequality grows more visible")
This effects Cubans who grow more aware of the situation in their government. The article uses persuasion while also informing about the inequality for Cubans in there drastic change.

Conflict:  http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/24/world/asia/refugees-are-pushed-to-exits-in-pakistan.html?ref=world ("Refugees are pushed to exits in Pakistan")
The conflict is afghanistan innocents against terrorists. Also against the government forcing them to leave even if it's for their own safety.

Human Conflict:  http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/24/world/africa/as-tourism-sags-on-kenyan-coast-terrorists-could-lure-the-unemployed.html?ref=world (" A Catch 22 in Kenya; Western Terrorism…")
This effects people emotion because terrorism is a sensitive subject and can be incredibly dangerous or fatal.

Novelty: http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015/02/24/world/europe/ap-eu-germany-measles.html?ref=world (" Toddler dies of measles in Berlin")
This interests me because i believed measles were eradicated or unlikey to get. Also, this could possibly spread and become something much bigger and effect more people. I like to learn about diseases and biology.

Magazine Cover Review

-I looked at "Into The Wild" created by Jordan Young.
-I liked how the title started off sideways then became upright in a much bigger and bolder text. I also like the neutral colors she used because the photo itself isn't bright.
-I think she could maybe move the text/captions off the subjects face in the photograph so she's not covered.
-The picture and the large text caught my attention. Also the way that the wire frames her eyes was interesting.
-There is a barcode.
-The barcode did make the it look more "magazine-like" and kept it from looking like a poster or flyer.
- I know this is a portrait because the girl in the photo is not the blogger. Also she is behind a wire and it would be hard to get positioned in a crouch behind the wire on a timer.

Prompt Review & Magazine Cover

http://clarissephotoj.blogspot.com/2015/01/prompt-shoot-3.html?showComment=1421182387418#c3032403199882467610

-I like her photo for "pause" because the sky is one bright color in contrast to the dark branches which cover most of the photo in different shapes and directions.

-My least favorite photo is her photo for "connected". I don't think there is anything super intriguing about the photo because it is quite plain and has no clear subject.

-I like her concepts for "pause" and the "end". I also like the colors in "pose" and "pause".

-I think they can improve on using rules of photography.

-I think they did the best job portraying "pause" because it's different than other pictures I've seen for that prompt. The nature feel gives me a peaceful, serene feel which is almost like a "pause" on life.

-I think "pose" matched the prompt the least because a flower cannot move or pose. When I think of posing I think of humans making faces or planned movements, this flower was "caught off guard" in a way.

5 Websites

First Website:

http://petapixel.com/2014/12/19/disorienting-beauty-spiral-staircases-old-abandoned-buildings/

On this website I read about a photographer who takes pictures of spiral staircases. He takes time to find a perfect staircase in order to capture it's beauty and disorientation. He takes the photo from the very top.

I learned that the angle is very important in creating a whimsical look to the photo.

1. I picked this photo because of the spiral effect and colors. It's very bright and looks like it was very elegant at a time when in use.
2. Lines are present
3. Christian Richter

Second Website:

http://www.rachelsussman.com/oltw/

This website shows environmental objects over 2,000 years old. The photographer worked with biologists and traveled the world for this project.

I learned that the oldest things don't share anything in common. One plant may be from the coast while another is from the desert.

1. I picked this photo because it shows one lonely tree that was able to survive despite having few neighbors.
2.  This photo has simplicity in the plain sky against the tree.
3. Rachael Sussman

Third Website:

http://blog.ted.com/2014/10/07/how-to-create-a-killer-timelapse-with-joe-capra/

This website is about a photographers experience of time lapsing. He answers questions about why people are drawn to time lapse while also explaining how to get a good time lapse.

I learned to get just 10 seconds of video you need about 240 individual photos.

a. In the video there were multiple areas with bright colors and tons of movement in a sped of time-lapse.
b. The video was made by Joe Capra.
c. The video is about the time lapse of Rio de Janeiro. He choose places that capture the lively-ness of the city and spent weeks just trying to pick put the right music for the video.
d. I learned colors work well when dealing with these videos because the speed causing intereting streaks of light to look at.

2. I learned that it's best to use things that interest you.
3.
a) I choose this photo because it's in black and white which was different from the others on the website.
b) There are lines in the stairs and rail that leads to the girl. Also, there is repetition of stripes. The stripes are found on the stairs and on the subjects skirt and undershirt.
c) The photographer isn't obviously listed but we can assume it's possibly Robin Walker.

Fifth Website:

http://petapixel.com/2015/01/01/projector-brought-forest-turns-nature-glowing-wonderland/

1. This website is about how people brought projectors into a forest to illuminate the 3-d elements in nature creating a light show.
2. In the video, I saw different parts and creatures of nature with light patterns projected on to them causing illuminating and motion effects.
3. The video was mostly created by a photographer named Tarek Mawad and an animator named Frederick Van Schoor. The music/sound etc is credited to more people at the end of the video.
4. I think the story was just giving life and color to a dull area.
5.  I learned you can project and focus on certain areas of different sizes

2014

This is one of my favorite photos because Beyonce is one of my favorite artists and both artists are powerful performers

This photo interests me because he is surrounded by abandoned houses and choose to continue to live in isolation.
I like this photo because the streak is so bright against the sky. It also reminds me of a shooting star.

1. Best song of 2014: Take Me To Church-Hozier.
This is my favorite song because it has a sound unlike other popular hits. Its very haunting while still being catchy. Also, in the music video, there is a sad storyline meant to bring attention to gay rights, which i think is very positive. This story makes the song meaningful and emotional instead of solely to entertain ( however its still very entertaining)

2. Best Movie of 2014: The Heat.
When this was in theaters i saw it twice. It is so funny and i actually could control my laughter in the theatre even after the scene ended. It had original jokes and two talented and hilarious actresses. I think it had good contrast between the two which created a very feel good character development.

3. The top News story of 2014: Ferguson
This is the top news story because i had the strongest opinions toward this subject. I kept myself the most updated on this because of how mad the situation made me. I didn't agree with how anything was handled and felt like i needed to know what was happening 24/7. This situation ended up spawning more conflict which i also have strong opinions about.

4. Most important person of 2014: Beyonce
Beyonce is important because of how successful she is. She had a baby and also surprise dropped an album that still hit number one and stayed at the top of the charts. From the songs she created iconic sayings and top hits. She was also able to keep her fame and success still after all these years. She has performed at the Superbowl halftime, the VMA's, met the royal family, etc.

5. Biggest Sports Story of 2014: Ray Rice
Even though I'm not too into sports, this story was big enough even for me to hear about. Even though he showed domestic violence by punching and dragging his fiancé out of an elevator he was simply only suspended and may return to the NFL. This caused such an uproar for the Ravens and the player himself.

1. Over the holidays I was given my great grandmothers ring as a present.
2. My news years resolution is to take better care of my body by eating healthier and staying fit. This also includes managing stress.
3. Im looking forward to spending christmas 2015 with my family who lives in California. I rarely see them and can go to Disney with them.
