Portfolio Analysis

1. Three Portfolios
First -Alyssa Schukar
B. Dark instances which deal with people’s everyday problems
C.–Not enough emotion
-Awkward switch from sad to happy through baseball photo
-Too depressing
 D. They liked the sweeping man.
-Also they liked the action of the photos
 E. I like how it focuses are hardships but wished the stories were      more connected. Some pictures felt awkward and random.

Second-Anthony Souffle
B. Emotional moments
C. Photographer didn’t show enough detail.
D. There was a story mixed with emotional pictures.
E. I like the different settings the photos take place in. They are all in different areas with different stories.

Third-Melissa Golden
B. Youth or Eldery problems/activities
C. Photo stories were unoriginal, unclear in story behind them, and objects blocking or distracting from subject.
D. Good portrait, Good emotion in up close photos.
E. I like the use of black and white and elements of composition used. Like balance and lines.

2. Dustin Snipes

·      A) Good color composition. Photographer stays with action and follows subjects
·      B) Some strengths were how he angled and photographed his action photos. Photos where everyone involved is doing something. Some weaknesses were the too much use of photoshop.

3.  To become the winner, the portfolios needed to show difference and not have a similar portfolio. They also needed a common theme yet with diversity. They must have a good use of editing.

Part 2

1 .I agree with the judges on the photo of a girl rejoicing her tennis win. You can see the act of happiness without even having to see her face. the photo also has simplicity and includes the girl and her tennis racket which is all that is needed.
2. I do not agree with the judges opinion on the photo of a girl in an orange jersey jumping in the air. They state that the photo is basic, but I disagree. The photo shows a great amount of emotion and rules of composition including rule of thirds.
