Great Black and White Photos Part 2

John Gutmann was born in Breslau, Germany in 1905. He attended Johannes Gymnasium in Germany, then studied art history and philosophy at Schlesische Freidrich Wilhelms University also in Germany. He finally left Germany to photograph in 1933, signing a contract with Berlin as a photojournalist. Throughout the years, he has taught at universities, state colleges, and traveled across the world. He also founded an international film program and directed programs as well. He has published multiple documentaries, books, and catalogs in his lifetime, including: Le Palais Ideal, GUTMANN, and The Restless Decade. He produced plenty of exhibitions showing his artwork, his last exhibition honored his career and contributions to San Francisco State University. He ended up passing away June 28, 1998 in San Francisco, California.
